Scientists will have access to a unique longitudinal dataset that will foster innovative research and contribute to the advancement of transfusion medicine.
The LOS Registry provides researchers with access to a comprehensive dataset that tracks patient health outcomes over a 30-year period. This unique longitudinal data provides invaluable insight into the long-term impact of blood transfusions and donations, allowing researchers to identify trends, risk factors and outcomes that were previously unknown. The study promotes the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles for data sharing, ensuring that data is available for collaborative research while maintaining the highest standards of data integrity and security. This approach not only facilitates ground-breaking research, but also ensures that the results are widely disseminated and utilised.
The LOS promotes interdisciplinary collaboration between scientists, physicians, and data experts. This collaborative environment allows researchers to share knowledge, methods and best practices to drive innovation in transfusion medicine. Scientists can participate in joint research projects, contribute to influential publications and present their findings at national and international conferences. By working together, researchers can develop innovative solutions to common challenges in transfusion practice and contribute to the development of new guidelines and procedures that improve patient safety and quality of care.
Researchers can access expert support and a wealth of resources and can receive ongoing support from a network of renowned medical experts to ensure they are well equipped to conduct high quality research. Ethical standards, assessed by a diverse team within a robust governance framework, ensure that the science is meaningful, appropriate and safe for all participants.
Partner organisations contributing patient data benefit from easy access to the LOS data. This data is made available by the administrator upon request and approval by the study team, ensuring seamless integration into the research process. External researchers can also access LOS data upon request to the study team or the LOS Scientific Advisory Board. All data requests must meet ethical standards and compliance with GDPR regulations must be ensured.
The LOS team offers comprehensive support to partners and external researchers in planning, conducting and publishing meaningful studies. This includes guidance on data utilisation, methodological approaches, and support with ethical and regulatory requirements to ensure that researchers can effectively contribute to the advancement of transfusion medicine.
